U N E V E N: our firm…. Shourya Patel and Dexter Fernandes
In architecture, as in all other fields, experience is much more important than one's degree. So once we got our degree in 2004, we decided to start working. We found work with prominent Baroda architects and quickly understood why experience counted more. Studying about building construction is one thing and actually going out doing it is quite another. But as fun as college had been, we realized that we loved every moment of the creative experience. We will always be grateful to our employees because it was under their guidance that our creative genius flourished.
While we were still working at our respective firms, we began offering small jobs independently. This was a blessing because it gave us an opportunity to test our individual skills. Could we really handle things by ourselves? Fortunately for us we were able. These little jobs served to give us confidence, they also brought us appreciation and more work.
Sitting in our canteen at the university three and a half years ago building castles in the air, we had often talked about starting a company together someday in the future. Now we wonder if that particular castle could have a base. Did we dare? We dared We quit our jobs and Uneven was born our own architecture studio. Unequal because we as individuals are very different. Our work is also separate poles, each having its own distinct characteristics. We are the perfect combination because we complement each other. Having our own company also gave us the opportunity to explore areas other than architecture. Shourya had already tried stage design when she worked for a time with well-known art director Sameer Chanda. His passage there brought us our next film project.
Back in Baroda, the work began to arrive and the recognition too. We found out that we make a good story. At least the newspapers think so. We start doing bigger projects. Now we could choose our clients. Along with architecture and interior design, our repertoire now includes wedding design, sets and various events as well.
Friends joined our team and so uneven has been constantly strengthened. We have a team of 14 friends working with us now. We are known for our minimalist and understated designs. Some of our generous supporters say that our work has an experienced touch. Maybe it's because it's not work for us, it's something we love to do. It was one of our most moving moments when our first client for whom we designed an office a year and a half ago asked us to design their home again.
Now we have designed the most expensive housing scheme in Baroda (Vicenza highland architecture, interiors and landscapes too) is a plot of 31 bungalows ... 5 bedrooms ... individual pool area and much more ... too We are doing a couple of country houses and a lot of interior projects like a jewelry store, many residences, corporate offices, showrooms and exhibition booths ...
